Manual Handling Course
Course Details:
This course is designed as an introduction to the principals of manual handling.
Objectives of Course:
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define manual handling and state relevant Irish & EU legislation
- Describe the basic anatomy of the spine
- Perform specific Manual Handling tasks competently to a recognised standard
- Complete essential risk assessment prior to completing manual handling tasks
- Identify Ergonomic factors associated with their work activities
- Complete a series of exercises designed to improve strength, endurance and flexibility
Programme
- Manual Handling Legislation (Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regs 2007, Part 2, Chapter 4
- Anatomy and physiology of the spine and muscular system
- Mechanism of injury
- Fitness and flexibility requirements for safe Manual Handling
- Specific Manual Handling hazards relevant to the workplace
- Risk Assessment for Manual Handling Tasks & Individual Risk Factors
- Practical Manual Handling Training &Techniques
- Procedures for dealing with unfamiliar loads
Who Should attend
Under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, 2007, it is a requirement that ALL employees attend manual handling training with particular emphasis on anyone who is engaged in the lifting and handling of loads.
Pre-Course Requirements
No pre course requirements but English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language.
Assessment/Certification
Participants are required to complete a short written examination and practical. Full certification of attendance is provided on successful completion of the course.
